Nrityanchal Dance Company, BANGLADESH
15th December 2019
National Bal Bhavan
Written and Directed by Sohel Bhuyan
As we pronounce and utter the word Janmabhumi (motherland), a pleasant world of natural beauty takes shape in our schema or mind. We dream of a land full of lush green crops and water bodies that are full of life. Its a land of multiple colors and people with varied professions. No wonder, this is our motherland, the Golden Bangla as the poets call it endearingly.
The Dance Show, Janmabhumi, therefore, attempts to depict a picture of a wonderful land with hundreds of people of different hues and color and of different professions. The flag of this land that shows a red sun on a green landscape is simply the symbol of the country and it instills in us the love for our motherland.
'Janmabhumi' narrates the stories of those people who are our own folk and who live in the countryside. As the show begins, an image of Bangladesh will emerge with the beat of drums and musical notes.

About the Group
Bangladesh has inherited a living dance tradition which reflects the evolution of South Asian dance through the ages, from classical times down to the present day. It is characterised by variety, versatility and richness of form and content. Transcending linguistic and political barriers, it is part of the world’s cultural heritage.
Shibli Mohammad and Shamim Ara Nipa have been performing together for many years. As leading
exponents of Indian classical dance, they are well known for their exquisite performances of Kathak,
but are equally proficient in folk and creative (contemporary) dance. Their professional partnership is legendary – no other dance duo in Bangladesh has approached them in popularity and no major cultural event is complete without them. With their seemingly effortless co-ordination of movement, the chemistry between them is clear for all to see.
Their collaboration led to the formation of Nrityanchal Dance Company in 2000, in conjunction with Muhammad Jahangir, who, with his long experience in the fields of media and culture, coordinates
the company’s activities.
